Leather was started in 1968 in Santa Barbara , CA, while I
was in High School. My grandfather was a saddle and rope maker
from Central Oregon, where he grew up on a ranch and raised
cattle for most of his life. His forefathers were pioneers
in the area in the 1870's. They built or made almost everything
they needed. The nearest Post Office or store was 300 miles
away in the early days, so you can see that they had to be
self reliant to survive! I have taken this philosophy and
the skills that were taught to me and created this company
to carry on with this tradition.
While I was in High School,
I made and sold all kinds of leather items... from sandals
to saddles. I also worked part time in a leather shop near
the university for a year or so after I graduated. In 1970
I moved to South Lake Tahoe and opened a leather shop of my
own where we made custom leather goods for tourists and locals
alike. After a difficult year in South Lake Tahoe, my
partner Noni Tavarez and I moved to Sacramento, California
in 1972. Since the beginning
of the company, we have attempted to present quality products
to our customers. The company prospered by offering Great
Customer Service and quality products. I cannot overemphasize
how important it is to delivery Great Customer Service
and we will make that special effort to do just that!!!
